arrived at IAD yesterday, several hours early for the 22.30 flight. Choice between spending $15.00 every 30 mins at the Hilton bar, or free drinks in the lounge. This was an avios booking.
I asked the check-in staff if I could move to the earlier 18.10 flight – I thought this would be highly unlikely given there was no avios availability. to my surprise I was moved. My connecting flight to Manchester was also moved to an earlier flight (again, this had no avios availability) meaning the 12 hour wait at Heathrow which I was expecting became just 90 mins.
I’m now back home 13 hours earlier than expected. So a big thumbs up to BA on this one – I love you (for now !! )
Nice one. Wait a couple of days and see if you get bonus credit to your account too. I bet you do.
That would NOT happen in Dublin. They have refused for years to move “an avios booking” forward, even on very bad foggy delayed flights days… you were very lucky. Well done.
It dosen’t hurt to ask
This suggests that BA could have had issues with the flight you were originally booked on – possibly over booked and requiring downgrades ans denied boarding – so them moving you actually helps them with that problem.
Just checked the flight status and your original flight was 1 1/2 hours late and if they knew that yesterday afternoon when you rocked up that may have also been a factor.
Well the love didnt last long 🙁
just had an email to say our flight from MAN-LHR has been cancelled next week. Onward flight to Larnaca is still on, but I’m struggling to find any availability to get us to Heathrow which works with the Larnaca flight.
Can I force BA to pay for a taxi to Heathrow, in exchange for the domestic flight?

If it is on one PNR, I see why not.

@NorthernLass has definitely done this (from MAN) in the past!
I did a few years ago, but it was on the actual day of travel. At the moment if this happened I would definitely be appearing at the MAN check in desk asap and asking to be re-ticketed and for alternative transport to LHR to be arranged. In our case it seemed to take quite a while and a lot of messing with the booking system for them to re-ticket us so I personally would not try cancelling anything online in case the whole booking was lost.
The desk agents at MAN are generally fantastic and well worth a trip to speak to in person compared with the current phone service!

You owe BA £520, get it in the post ASAP 🙂

haha, I’m still out of pocket for all the time I’ve been on hold waiting to get through to someone on the phone over the last couple of years 🙂

I think it would depend on other options/time of day. So if the time of day meant a train was feasible I’d guess a taxi would be unlikely. But depending on number of passengers on the booking, train cost versus taxi cost likely to be a factor. What you may get at MCOL if you dispute with BA and organise yourself, and what BA offer unlikely to be the same. Depends on attitude to risk and willingness to fork out up front yourself.
