A couple of questions:
1. Does anyone know if the AMEX Travel Insurance extends to cover cruises? I am struggling to find this information on the website so just wondered if anyone has used it before for a cruise?
2. If i generate the £400 travel spend bonus and book a future date, did i still need to have an active account/card? I was looking to generate the bonus, book something then cancel for pro rata fee return but wondered if i would be locked into retaining the card due to the travel booking.
1. It doesn’t seem to specifically exclude them but you should call them and check for yourself.
2. If you go ahead with the travel booking, you don’t need to keep the card until the travel has taken place. If you cancel the booking, you might lose the bonus too (even if you’ve cancelled the card as the refund goes back to Amex first, to then pay you by BACS/cheque).
Typically cruise insurance has additional cover specifically for some of the things that can happen on a cruise e.g. you arrive late to port and miss your ship or you are confined to cabin due to viral outbreak. Amex insurance doesn’t cover any of these.
It does cover you for other generic issues like you having to cancel due to ill health but check the limits as cruise prices can be higher than the average holiday as you pay for it all up front.
