-
The flight has changed from a 3 class to an older 4 class so now has a much smaller Club World. Interestingly prices for the few remaining seats have shot up from £3.1k to £8.2k.
My experience last time in CW was coloured by having a large guy climb over me several times in the flightI was looking forward to trying the Club Suite
Whether some people prefer CW is irrelevant, the fact that BA crow about their new seat where “everyone has aisle access” means BA believe the new one is better. So changing, while within THEIR Fare Rules still leaves a sour taste – esp when they want to charge me for seat selection for the meagre remaining choice. As Rob has pointed out their are no bad CS seats.
Good point made re – sour taste! I agree with you.
You should complain to BA and see if they’ll compensate you in some shape or form, since they’ve ultimately screwed up, and they should at the very least acknowledge and try to make you satisfied.
It’s like when Rob mentioned a little while that when VS changed the aircraft at the last minute and they were then sat in an old UC seat instead of an A35X / A339neo, he was told that he’d get 10K points as a sorry, but at the time of writing, it never appeared…
You’ve got nothing to lose when trying your luck in these sort of circumstances
BA haven’t screwed up. They have changed equipment for that flight. Happens all the time.
If they have changed from a 3 class to a 4 class plane with fewer J seats, then some people are likely to get to sit in the F seats (FLUB)
In that situation, I would not reserve a seat and cross my fingers.
Whatever happens, you are going to get a comfortable lie flat seat.
@Chas P Re “…So changing, while within THEIR Fare Rules still leaves a sour taste …”
As JDB pointed out earlier, this isn’t a BA thing. The CAA would not consider this to be a substantial change, you’re still flying in the class you booked.
Why did you make your post if you’re not prepared to listen to the advice given? One potential positive of a switch from CW to CS is that if it’s a 777, there is likely to now be a larger First cabin, which they’ll potentially be looking to fill with cheap upgrades or Avios availability.

Doesn’t work like that.
They do open up the F cabin on non F routes but only under certain circumstances and only very close to time of departute when they have over sold club and need the space.
probably correct – there is no First availability on line
Exactly same thing happened to us flying back from Fort Lauderdale. Noticed it was a 4 cabin 777. F seats couldn’t be reserved in advance so made sure I was on the ball at check in and secured 2 F seats with CW service. You might be thankful they swapped planes if you can nab the first seats! Also, can happen the other way round. Coming back from Mauritius a plane swap meant CS not CW!
I never found sitting with a stranger awkward. I just put the divider up if I didn’t want to engage with the fellow flyer. Otherwise I’ve had a few conversations with interesting people.
It’s weird that people find it awkward – why is it worse than when sitting next to a stranger on a short haul flight?
I MISS having interesting conversation with new people.
Club Suite is very nice. But rather dull.Well flew out on Monday to Capetown (it was Club Suite, then changed to the old Club World). Yes I agree it is more social, my wife and I sat opposite each other, mine was one of the two in the middle. Still much better than Economy or Premium Economy! But it is difficult stepping over the legs of someone in the middle of the night and I am quite tall! Doing Virgin Upper Class in Nov to Capetown and hopefully back to Club Suite on BA in a years time. One point is that you don’t feel enclosed in on the old Ying Yang!
Seems random – LGW-MRU has been operating CS all of Feb… So must be some LHR planes lying around
In this, will i have to climb over someone only if say, im sat in 10E?

Yes. You wouldn’t if you chose 10B, 10D, 10F or 10J. 13A and 13K are also climb free
