Forums Payment cards Other payment cards Curve – how to pay a HSBC credit card?

  • ross 59 posts

Hsbc credit does not have a method to pay via Debit Card.

Instead it suggests that the bank that issued your debiy card should provide a method of payment. Yet I cannot find anything with Curve.

Apologies if a silly question, grateful for an answer.

    Many thanks

I haven’t looked at this as I pay HSBC by direct debit but I’m guessing HSBC are just on the ball here and have tightened up on how they accept payment quicker than others.

Curve isn’t a bank and won’t be able to make a bank transfer or set up a direct debit.

Basically it sounds like HSBC don’t want to pay fees for taking a debit card when they don’t have to.

It’s long been the case that FD credit cards can only be paid from a bank account so it would be expected that HSBC would have the same rule. Even some issuers which do accept debit cards to pay off their credit cards don’t accept Curve, e.g. Barclays.

Thanks, looks like it might be a no-go which is pretty disappointing.

    What’s an FD CC? Thanks.

First Direct. Paying a credit card with Curve is pretty niche and carries all sorts of potential complications!

Cool, now I’ve realised I’ve not missed the obvious. Should we delete this?

The way to get around it is to top up a payment account with your rewards card, then use that payment account to make a transfer to HSBC. People used to do this with the likes of Revolut and Monese.
