    My car rental got hit in a car park and has a bit of damage on a door, I paid for it with my Amex platinum , what’s the procedure for insurance ? Do I report it to Amex when returning the car ? Company is Hertz.

    What I think will likely happen is the hire company will issue a damage report. Make sure this has photos & measurements. They may be able to price the work there & then (in which case they will charge the card at that point), or it may need to be assessed (in which case they hold the full deposit/excess until they have decided the cost).

    Once you know the cost, you submit the claim to Amex’s insurance agent and hopefully it gets paid back to you quickly.

    The pain is if the hire company drag their heels in assessing the damage then you’re on the hook for the deposit amount until they give you the bill. Amex may have a provision in place for this – I don’t know.
