Diamond Elite until…. the day I check in…. Will I get the Diamond benefits?

Total IHG newbie – used the HFP blag to get me to Diamond Elite – the app says I am Diamond until 31st Dec – the day I check in to an IC hotel….. We already have breakfast and lounge included with our suite…..

Is it still worth me paying the $200 to get Ambassador to extend my Diamond for another year. Cant work out if I’ll be any better off.

From what I can tell, the only benefit I;m due is 30% off F and B spend.

Traditionally, most ICs gave very little notice to your IHG status. They only recognised whether you were an ambassador or not.

In your situation, unless you have some other IHG stays planned next year, the Diamond status will not be very useful.

Being an ambassador on a cash stay at an IC may get you an upgrade however. You need to look at it from that point of view, not an extending diamond point of view, for the stay you’ve described.

If you get AMB now not only will it extend your Diamond until the end of 2023 (all those breakfasts and 100% bonus points from stays in 2023) you’ll also benefit from the current 20k points from this offer plus the usual BOGOF voucher and upgrade so its possible you’d get a better suite

Thanks guys. Much appreciated. I can potentially move a weeks stay next year to get some more use out of extending diamond.

BUT, the follow up question would be – If I do nothing – and my diamond expires the day after we check in, will I still get diamond benefits (the 30% F and B discount) for my whole 7 day stay?

Guess I can ask that at check in, and if need be, pay the $200 there and then to extend diamond and save me the 30%.

Yes I did see that. But the email from the hotel does say “you will enjoy 30% discount on F and B in all the restaurants including room service”…..

That sounds like a general email for all bookings. You wouldn’t have a leg to stand on I’m afraid if they (correctly) refused to honour it.

I agree. though it was a personal email in reply to me asking them to add my IHG number to the booking….

I think this has just saved me wasting $200 on buying Ambassador….
