Forums Hotel loyalty schemes IHG One Rewards Diamond run off period?

I’ll be dropping down from Diamond to Platinum at the end of the year. Is there a run off period where yiu still receive Diamond benefits fie a short period? If so how long?

I asked this recently and it seems like the sparkle gets extinguished pretty much on Jan 1st, although it may flicker for a couple of days afterwards 😬. Certainly nothing like Hilton where you get till the end of March, anyway!

Also I’m still not 100% sure if you then drop to Platinum or just nothing. Someone mentioned the other day that you still get Platinum if the system recognises you as a previous Creation card holder (or if you’re Ambassador, of course).

I’ll have triggered platinum so that’s not a concern, it’s just I have a stay from 1st to 5th Jan in Estoril and was hoping to get my breakfast amenity on the stay!

I think there was a previous discussion where someone said they can see your status expiry date when you check in.

I’ve booked a few 2025 stays via Emyr for the breakfast benefit as I won’t be diamond any more either.

@RobH This was my experience last January:

My Diamond had an expiry of 31st December 2023 and we had a stay at the Kimpton in Sydney (8th-11th January 2024), my Diamond status was still showing on the app, so when we checked in they confirmed Diamond room upgrade and comp breakfast for the stay duration.

I think the IHG IT system did a sweep across accounts some time in mid-January, perhaps 13th or 14th and then I was downgraded to Platinum (I have ambassadors membership), subsequent stay on 15th Jan at Crown Plaza in Melbourne I was Platinum at check in and therefore no breakfast (albeit less of a problem there as I was less enthused about having breakfast at that particular hotel).

You may well get lucky, fingers crossed for you.
Intercontinental Estoril is a fab hotel though and I would be tempted to pay for breakfast if you are downgraded, wonderful setting and really good selection. Nearby Cascais is a great place to explore and full of good local restaurants.

Has anyone booked multiples rooms for friends / family as a diamond? Are hotels strict in applying free breakfast rule?

Only experience at one hotel, the Holiday Inn Brighouse. Room 1 booked points first night then cash second. Room 2 cash both nights.

Comped brekkie for all 4 guests (all adults) as diamond.

@milesonpoints yes I’m hoping we’ll be OK. Looking forward to the break.

We stayed at the Int Melbourne a couple of times, quite enjoyed the breakfast offerung there actually.
