A decade ago I was working with people in a deprived area of the UK and walked through a council estate where I saw a BA holidays advert for 7 days in Tobago for £1500 or something, that was a complete waste of BA’s money
It’s unlikely they specially selected that as a site.
More likely the campaign was for x thousands of posters across the UK and the agency booked available sites.
Interesting replies, thanks. I recently walked through NCL wondering the same question. I relate to avoiding adverts. I listen to the radio most days and will mute the repetitive adverts and their catchy jingles.
But you can’t really avoid them but you can avoid being influenced by them. Just as people aren’t forced to buy duty free even if they have to walk through a duty free shop.
The varied responses have been a good read. I asked because I’ve recently been contacted about advertising right outside the entrance/exit to all 3 lounges. I’m not convinced. Great to hear about the new VIP lounge opening in December if it goes ahead.
I have a natural filter on top of being half blind, so I tend to ignore them all or just haven’t seen them. The only ones that stick out in my brain are hire car companies, because of the irony of them targeting a blind guy…
Are there adverts in airports? Can’t recall seeing any!
🙂
If we all start saying we don’t notice ads online, beware. The concept of a free internet is based on those ads being noticed

Unless the product or service you are offering is something that people will want to use in the lounge, it will only give you brand value. And these locations won’t effectively build brand (there is no frequency as most will only see them once), unless you have other related brand marketing elsewhere.
Personally, I like to make a point of remembering adverts which I consider, in my strange way, worthy. My current “favourite” is Taylor’s coffee, repeating ad nauseum on Freevee or whatever it’s called, whilst watching Bosch Legacy. There’s a possibility that it is purposely bad of course, but I have made a mental note that should I ever be given the chance to sample, let alone buy said products, to actively avoid it and attempt to encourage others to actively avoid also. I’m positive that in the grand scheme of things it is a pointless gesture, but I feel like every little helps.
Like others have said, the only airport advertising I really remember is the HSBC air bridges, but then when imprisoned in a metal tube, heading to another imprisoning metal tube, the mind apparently does strange things. I’m not sure if I react to them in a good or bad way, but as I’m already with an HSBC subsidiary, it feels too late…
