Does Amex Gold eligibility work both ways?

Hi folks
May be a dumb question but I note from the pinned post that if you have the Amex Gold card you can still apply for BA Preferred Plus card.
Does the door swing both ways.
If I have (or ha E just cancelled) a BA Preferred Plus Amex, can I apply for a Gold card?

You can apply, and may get accepted, but if you mean whether you are eligible for the bonus on Gold, then no. You would still get the first year free, though.
