The article on this topic (for which comments are now closed) implies that it should. But one of the historic comments refers to this as a “loophole”, that may since have been closed.
Does anyone have real world, recent experience? My wife will lose status imminently, and so (presumably) immediately lose her points, unless I do something with her account between now and then.
Surely the terms and conditions of the scheme hold more value than some random person in the interweb saying yay or nay?
Section 39 as per below seems categorically clear that redeeming points extends for 12 months
https://www.ihg.com/content/gb/en/customer-care/member-tc
Point Expiration: Club level membership Points (see Member Benefits, including levels of membership, here) will expire if your membership account becomes inactive for any period of twelve (12) months or longer, which means your Points will be removed from your account and will no longer be available for redemption. To maintain the Points in your membership account, you must have at least one “earn” or “redeem” transaction posted to your account every twelve (12) months. Use of the one night per year provided to IHG One Rewards credit card holders does not constitute an “earn” or “redeem” activity to prevent Point expiration. Elite Members’ Points do not expire as long as Elite level membership is maintained.
She doesn’t intend to actually stay the night. Are the points “redeemed” if one books the stay (for later in the year), then at a later date, cancels the stay? What I want to avoid is the latter action invalidating the former, and so all points instantly disappearing rather than return to her account.
This may all be moot as IHG still seems to think she’s a credit card holder, despite Create-gate, and so may let her keep Elite status post February reset…
