I have about 6 days in Qatar coming up (staying at The Pearl) and am wondering what to do with myself. If anyone’s actually spent a few days there rather than the WC/transiting and can recommend anything I’m all ears. I’m primarily there to reacquaint my pasty form with the sun but wouldn’t mind seeing a bit of the place too.
Not step foot outside the airport but next time I have my eye on doing the whale shark excursion (seasonal May-aug).
We visited last March and were impressed with the non-beach things to do, helped by the excellent metro system.
Stand-outs for us were: the National Museum of Qatar (distinctive architecture) and the Msheireb museums (which were done really well). Souq Waqif at sunset was good too, enhanced by the cannon at sunset during Ramadan. Walking round Msheireb is enjoyable. Katara Cultural Village is worth a visit after dark (when it’s cooler). We had hoped to visit the Museum of Islamic Art but it was closed for refurbishment when we were there and I’d give that a visit if you have the time.
