Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club Downgrading my BA Amex, will I lose voucher?

    Hi All,

My BA Black Amex renewed for another year and I have already hit the spent limit for the 2-4-1 voucher. I would like to therefore downgrade and get a pro-rata refund. My question is will i loose the 2-4-1 voucher? I have not used it yet and plan to use it later in the year.

As long voucher is in your British airways account then you can cancel for the pro rata refund. You won’t lose it. To use in future you will need ANY AMEX card to pay for flight though so keep that in mind. Can be anyone’s.

@tankmc – you should probably ask Amex who will give you a totally different answer to the one above! Someone copied and pasted the Amex chat response in full on the forum only yesterday. Strict application of the terms would mean that a downgrade is OK but a cancellation is not because you would no longer be eligible for the promotion.

That is Amex’s formal/official position which is also consistent with the terms. The experience of most, but not all, is that you will most likely be absolutely fine but that’s for you to judge. While there is a published position and an opposing practical experience, nobody should be too definitive either way.

Update to everyone. I spoke to Amex who was very lovely and said of course I wont loose anything and that I can get a refund off the fee too!

    No problems.
