As its impossible to get hold of the Gold Line, can I cancel the booking online? I have tried to cancel via manage my booking but it takes me to the request voucher page. I am sure I read somewhere by submitting that form, I will get my avios refunded. Has anybody tried it?

    THanks

Have you tried the chat function?

By the way, this afternoon I got through the gold line in 22 minutes.

By using that form you will get a Future Travel Voucher – this is really just the booking held as credit for future use (no refund). So, if you intend to travel somewhere in the future, using avios, you can go for the FTV and use that credit for the later travel. The disadvantage is that you have to call to use an FTV but conversely you don’t lose any cancellation fee.

If you want to cancel, and get a refund, you also have to call. You will get avios and cash refunded minus £35pp cancellation fee (or less if you have paid less than £35 in fees).

An award FTV can also be cancelled in the future, at which point you pay the cancellation fee, and get everything else refunded. So, the answer to the ‘simple’ part of the question, is to use the form online. At some point in the future you can call to re-book or have a refund.
