Forums Payment cards Barclaycard Avios Easy way to use two upgrade vouchers?

  • 9 posts

    Hi,

Just looking for some advice, please. We’d like to use our upgrade vouchers (we have two of them) I believe we have to do this on two separate bookings (my husband one to use his voucher, me one to use the other) and that the flights have to originate in the UK, so is there a way to ensure that we can both get on the same flight easily? It’s not being helped by the fact that I get different results on how many seats are available when I do the searches.

We’ve purposefully chosen a route that has availability most of the time, but this doesn’t seem to be making it any easier. Also, we don’t seem to be able to access the entire timetable for that day- is this normal? (we are planning Washington DC, and there are multiple flights back but it only shows us one, even though when I search for PE without using the voucher there are avios seats available in both PE and CW at other times.

It’s driving me crazy, but I would like to be able to use them!

    Thanks

That is weird. You don’t happen to have gold status do you which can sometimes show extra seats? Alternatively if you have an Amex 241 voucher on your account, is it automatically being selected when you search for Avios availability and showing extra availability?

Otherwise, to the best of my knowledge, availability is availability.

However, it is fairly low risk. You can cancel a booking for free within the 24 hours cooling off period. So if it looks like there are two seats available then book one of you. Then try and book the second one and if nothing shows you can call and get your Avios, fees and voucher back.

Oh and feel free to give us your route and date and we can have a look.

Also – if you did need to cancel you can now do this on line once more without having to call BA, and the voucher and avios SHOULD be immediately returned to you.

I would’ve thought it would be easiest to book the outbound for you both using one voucher and then separately book the return using the other voucher.

That would theoretically be the easiest, but you can only use the Barclays vouchers ex UK.
