    Good afternoon.

Is it possible to see how many Avios points I will earn if I book a flight with Expedia before i book it?

    Thank you

The only way would be to check the fare breakdown and add the BA base fare to the BA carrier surcharge amount and then multiply that based on your status multiplier.

If the fare breakdown isn’t shown during the booking process then it’s not possible.

    Thank you for your reply.

I am trying to decide whether to fly BA or Aer Lingus from Dublin to Los Angeles business class and how many Avios points I will get is one of the factors in my decision.

Do you have any thoughts on that?

Will I always get more points with BA?

    Thanks again

PS – Can you confirm that I do get Avios when flying with Aer Lingus please

@Clarey picking up on you, possibly being quite new to things and/or just not a constant follower of the intracasies of earnings.

The MOST important factor for most people is that you do NOT earn tier points on AE flights. Only Avios as per the new rates/ system.

If you search the HfP site there’s a recent article, that I’m just to lazy to go find for you( sorry) about the Avios costs on other carriers has been rationalized on the most part.

If you login to your account or visit ba.com and look for “earning Avios” you’ll see an option on the page for “Tier Point Calculator” which will also, hopefully give you a reasonable ballpark. Unlike before where you knew the exact figure

I recently had the same decision to make and plumped for Aer Lingus. If you open an aerclub account you can earn avios *and* tier points and then transfer avios back to BA at a later date.

Yes but Aer Lingus TP are not the same as BA TP. Aer Lingus status is only recognised on their own flights, not one world. (Yet)

Yes, a flight on Aer Lingus does not gain BA tier points but it is useful to get status on AL in its own right, is it not? It’s useful for me, as it is a lot easier to fly from Dublin than London 🙂

If EI meets your need the great but EI status is only valid when you fly with them.

That will change if they ever join One World but that’s not happening soon.

Whereas status with BA gets you benefits when flying on all it’s One World Partners as well.
