Hi,
I am planning on going to Chicago. I normally fly BA, which fly direct. I have around 600k virgin points and 2 credit card upgrade vouchers and was wondering if there is any way to fly to Chicago with virgin and using the companion vouchers – there would be 4 of us flying. Virgin don’t fly direct to ORD but they have flights available via New York using points and then to ORD with Delta. Is there a way to use the vouchers on this route?
Thanks
Yes they’ll happily accept that, I’m using it to fly MAN-JFK-ORF, you can also fly via ATL but you’d only get access to Delta lounges which are crap, In JFK you’d get access to the VS Clubhouse.
However if you’re using it to upgrade to Uper Class you’ll only get economy on the Delta leg. Once you have your booking, open a Delta Skymiles account, register your booking reference on that, and you may be able to upgrade that with cash or AMex MR points transferred to Delta Skymiles.
If you want to pay PE with points and use the vouchers to upgrade, use this https://travelplus.virginatlantic.com/reward-flight-finder/results/month?origin=LHR&destination=JFK&airline=VS&month=06&year=2024 to check there are 4 seats available in both PE and UC before you call Virgin to book.
Thanks for that – So say if I use the voucher as a companion voucher in upper on LHR-NYC-ORD (I am virgin silver) – it’s coming up as 118k miles on the virgin website for one person. Would I just pay that many miles for 2 people or will I only be able to use the companion part on the virgin flight from LHR-NYC (hope that makes sense!)

Yes, you’ll pay 118k + voucher + 2x taxes for 2 people and that’ll take you all the way to ORD.
There’s no requirement for miles availability on the JFK-ORD leg, just the LHR-JFK.
If you end up in the situation I did where Delta screw with their schedule and don’t have a connecting flight the same day, VS were very flexible about rebooking me on any suitable alternative DL flight at a time of my choosing or even a different airport to no extra charge. US airlines frequently change the times, dates and cancel routes all the time. I’ve had 5 time changes and a cancellation over 3 flights on my upcoming trip.

Thank you!
When booking a reward flight and then using voucher to upgrade, does there have to be availability in both cabins or just the one I’m upgrading to (assuming I’m calling to book)? For example if I wanted to go LHR-JFK using points to pay for Premium and then the voucher to go to Upper, I would imagine if I booked the reward flight online and then ring up to process the voucher upgrade. But if I ring up, can the call centre skip the initial cabin and go straight to the upgraded one if there were no seats in Premium?
Yes you need availabilty in both cabins. Booking the PE online and then calling to apply the voucher makes the process much quicker.
Hi as a virgin of Virgin the above helped for my scenario but one q? Flights are bookable 330 days out correct? And can I do one way ex-UK (PE PVG-LHR)?
