Has anyone had any luck booking Garuda via Qatar. Looking to book internal service CGK to DPS. The Qatar site returns errors and online is not possible. There are reports via Flyertalk that QR charge extortionate sums in YQ which bare no resemblance to reality when you call or complete the form. Is that other experience?
Any advice welcomed
I am looking for a flight SIN-DPSin July and just had a look on the Qatar website and found availability with Garuda.
Y available for 9000 avios + £37.50 per person
J available for 18000 avios + £37.50 per person
The Y fare is slightly more than a cash fare with a low cost carrier once baggage taken into account if valuing avios at 1p each.
The J fare is cheaper than other airlines offering J but looking at reviews for the Garuda 737-800, the J cabin doesn’t look particularly amazing.
I may go for for it though given the flexibility around cancelling

Thats not too bad. Delta are charging 45,000 plus US$84 Y and 80,000 plus US$84 J SIN DPS SIN on Garuda. The main benefit is that they are offering those prices on KLM with fully flat bed in J. The cash price for my dates is £552 return.
My problem is that I cant get QR to offer availability on my dates ex CGK without filling in a form and flyertalk are reporting very high YQ. So you post is encouraging.
Been trying to book for the last hour but it keeps on crashing when I get through to the payment screen.
I wonder whether these flights are actually available or not
Just to update – managed to eventually book for my family of 4……SIN-DPS in July in economy.
Total cost for the one way ticket in Economy 36000 Avios + £150 taxes (SGD 261).
Decent flight times and cancellable so I’m happy
Finally bagged 2 business class domestic seats on Garuda from CGK to DPS using Avios and via Qatar airways.
I had to call to make the booking as the QR site does not support domestic bookings.
The call centre is based overseas and the line was poor. I found using headphones helped me hear clearly. It was also a simple transaction and the agent knew what they were doing.
Once booked I had to wait for some reason to get confirmed and I was promised a call back within 30 minutes. This was done.
The points were deducted from my account and a link sent via the QR’s manage my booking website for me to pay the taxes and fees. These were less than half what the agent told me they would be.
Overall a relatively painless transaction and my first interaction with a QR service centre.
Garuda cash fares were £697 per person return on my dates.
I paid 50,000 Avios and £27 in total for 2 passengers which I thought represented good value against the cash fare but not necessarily the best use of 50,000 Avios. I could have done it for 25,000 and flown economy but then the value against the cash fare is negligible and may often be more expensive.
The flight is 2 hours and Garuda have proper business class seats.
I had looked at booking via Delta and their system allows domestic bookings. However round trip would have cost 80,000 miles and about the same in taxes and fees but they had no availability on my out bound date whereas QR offered every flight!

Congrats Paul, good to know QR system works. Reminds me of Turkish before they did a Radisson.
I initially misread it as 50k avios for one return as the cash price was for one person. But now it looks pretty good value.
