I realise applications have been closed for a while now, but is there any way of getting it even by calling?
Could I get a basic charge card (applications still open) and ask to upgrade it??

You can only get a Green charge card if you already have a Gold or Platinum charge card and request a downgrade.

Why do you want the UK Green charge? Even MR is chargeable after year one, I believe.
In any case, you need a charge card already to downgrade to, as Harrier has said, not sure about upgrading from basic. Amex UK don’t offer Charge cards to new applicants, afaik (again, not sure about basic).

I’ve have a Green charge card for over 3 years and apart from the £60 annual fee, there are no additional fees.

Hmm maybe I’m wrong about that then, I thought there was a charge for the MR program, but even so, I don’t really see the benefit of the Green Charge (UK) over the Rewards CC. Each to their own though, and it is a classic design.

There used to be a ?£24 MR membership fee on top of annual fee when the green charge annual fee was less (?£30). When it increased to £60/year, this MR fee was included.

The benefit is an additional years warranty on electrical items (white & brown) after the manufacturer warranty ends, which to me is well worth £5 a month. This feature is not available on the free rewards card, only Green and Centurion.

Why people come on here spouting nonsense because they think they know what they’re talking about, is always beyond me.

Why do you want the UK Green charge?

    a) because it’s the coolest looking card out there. Old School.

    b) because it doesn’t attract attention the same way waving my Centurion cards around does, especially at less salubrious locations.

the benefits of a charge card is a large credit limit but you must pay within 30 days or it gets cancelled? so that means unlimited MR ?
