Forums Hotel loyalty schemes Marriott Bonvoy Has Marriott changed their terms?

Just reading the Marriott T&C’s (Updated Feb 2025), specifically the Plat Elite welcome gift for Europe.

    * JW Marriott, Marriott Hotels, Delta Hotels, Autograph Collection, Renaissance Hotels.
“United States, Canada, Europe: 1,000 Points per Stay or U.S. $10 food and beverage (“F&B”) credit per Stay.”

Was this always the case, I was aware of Delta & Renaissance, but I’d always assumed that at ‘non lounge’ JW Marriott and Marriott hotels you got free breakfast?

To be fair most of my stays are Far East/Middle East, but this surprised me.

    * Or maybe ALL JW Marriotts have a lounge?

Wow, $10 will just about get you coffee these days!
Another reason I don’t regret giving up on Marriott/Bonvoy.

Then it goes on the says this:

“Europe: Participating Properties without a Lounge or approved alternative offer daily breakfast in restaurant for Member plus one (1) guest, or Member can choose 750 Points per night of Stay. This benefit applies to the following brands (resort properties excluded): JW Marriott, Marriott Hotels, Delta Hotels, Autograph Collection, and Renaissance Hotels.”

So which is it? Is it both, or does one supersede the other!

(I’ve just booked a UK Delta for April, hence the question)

You’re confusing the breakfast/lounge terms with the additional welcome gift which varies by brand.

Marriott definitely didn’t make it easy after the Starwood merger good table of benefits on LL.

I stayed at the delta Colchester for 1 night last weekend .

As a titanium member was given 1000 welcome bonus, plus I could have breakfast or an additional 750 points

This was the same for delta Windsor on thur and also delta Cheltenham on Tues

No questions asked , was immediately offered

I have booked st Regis for April in Macau and have been told breakfast is no longer included as a elite benefit (my previous stay last year it was ) so have rebooked into the W as used points

Indeed they’re in an “official” trial not to offer it. I am pretty sure that it’ll turn out via feedback members do not want breakfast as an option….

Too many ‘elites’ inevitably leads to dilution of benefits and/or raised thresholds – cf. BA.

Thanks to all for the replies, I know the spread of Marriott group hotels have different rules for Elites, but reading those terms on the Marriott website one would think they were genuinely designed to confuse people!

I’ve been Platinum for 6 years now, and have been treated very well as such, but most of my travels have been Middle East/Far East, and as James rightly says above, I genuinely had no idea that the “Welcome Gift” was in addition to the other Platinum benefits! When asked at check in would I like Breakfast or Points, I always choose breakfast! So now after 6 years I learn that (depending on the hotel) I can choose points at check in and also have breakfast!

I mean, why on earth do some hotels even ask you if you want breakfast or points if you are entitled to free breakfast as Platinum anyway! Just give the guest the points and room key for goodness sake!

God knows how many points I’ve missed out on over the years, you shouldn’t have to study the fine print on a spreadsheet every time you go on a trip.

New to me as well! Where can we see which places do this or don’t?
