Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club Have BA cancelled the KUL flights

Just had notification that our flights in Nov are cancelled and when I try alternative dates I’m told there are no direct flights!

    Booking is on a 2-4-1 in J

Unfortunately yes cancelled See article posted a little while ago

    Sorry – didn’t see that!

No need to apologise 😃 I do hope you get a satisfactory re-route. I’d wait a couple of days to see what re-routing options are offered to you. Chances are you’ll get TP now too so not all bad.

Just had a confirmation email from BA.
Like the OP I’ve got a premium economy booked with BUV.

Rerouting via QR or MH wouldn’t offer a PE cabin.

Am I entitled to ‘downgrade reimbursement’ if I’m rerouted on economy ?

Travelling with a toddler so preferably will be MH’s night flight.

Any ideas what I’m entitled to ?
    Many thanks

@TicknBash yes I think you should be entitled to downgrade reimbursement if you end up in economy. 75% of fare paid for each sector downgraded so applicable for both directions.

Claim from BA should not require you to actually travel but they will probably expect you to fly in downgraded cabin. So i’d sort out re-route first, then fly, then claim reimbursement.

Shouldn’t be a problem but it might not go smoothly given it is BA.

    I was booked on 22nd March LHR-KUL business class with a 241.
Just called to rebook (hoping for MH1), spoke to a staff member in India and was told that the only option was LON-SIN (BA), SIN-KUL (MH).
When I asked to rebook directly with the other oneworld carrier flying the identical route, I was told that BA only rebook on partner airlines when flights are cancelled with less than 24 hours notice.
I said I’d consider my options and didn’t commit to rebooking for now.

Anyone have any advice? Is it worth calling back and trying to get the UK call-centre? Or waiting a few days to see if they offer everyone a move to Malaysian airlines?

Like others have said, I would wait a few days until an official rebooking policy is in place. If I’ve booked non-stop I would expect the rebooked flight to more a less match that assuming it exists which it does

This is exactly the nonsense I got told when KUL was cancelled last time round.
That Singapore was the only option due to it being less than 300 miles from Kuala Lumpur or something.
Wait a few days and they will likely get the rerouting arrangements sorted with Malaysia Airlines.

EDIT: sorry missed the bit where they would then put you on MAS from SIN to KUL. When this happened to us a couple of years ago, the idiot on the phone said we’d have to make our own arrangements to get from SIN to KUL. Fortunately a couple of days later we were booked onto on the direct MAS flight.

God that’s even worse! Holding out hope for a rebooking policy, as the arrangement above would get us into KL really late on the first night.

I’ve just rebooked but it seems I am being asked to stump up for seat selection again. Do BA offer refunds on the original seat selection charges?

Has anyone succeeded in a chargeback or S.75 for seat selection fees on cancelled BA flights?

In case it makes a difference, Qatar doesn’t charge for seat selection in J. If you’ve already paid for BA seat selection you can get that refunded, so potentially ~£100 pp saving, each way if you have a return booking.

For anyone who doesn’t have Silver/Sapphire or higher status that’s potentially a reason to go that route rather than opting for BA via Singapore.

If it becomes an option, it looks like Malaysian doesn’t charge in J either.

That doesn’t apply in this case as it is BA that has cancelled the flight.

You don’t need a charge back because BA will refund them once you put the claim in. There is a form on the website to do it!

Charge back and s75 are your last ports if call not the first.

    @marks7389
    – Qatar does charge for seat selection in J for some fare buckets, even if you have Sapphire/Emerald OW status. It applies if you book directly with QR on some fare families but also if you are rerouted by BA onto a QR service, they will rebook you into the lowest available fare bucket so if that is, for example, R, you can’t select your business seat for free on QR irrespective of OW status.

I think one of the QR business fare buckets (Biz Lite) also doesn’t have lounge access – can’t remember which one

    marks7389 503 posts

In that case I stand corrected. Seat selection on Business Classic (R) and Business Lite (P) fares are chargeable.

    This seems to cover it…

    https://www.qatarairways.com/tradeportal/en/NewFareFamilies.html

More concerning is that Business Lite fares don’t include lounge access, though that may fall foul of the “under comparable transport conditions” requirement.

In practice I’m not seeing Lite fares being offered in the app, and Classic fares seem to have a minimum stay requirement so are presumably unlikely in the event if a one-way reroute

    JDB 5,618 posts

@marks7389 – BA will rebook into the lowest available fare bucket, even for a one way ticket and without minimum stay requirements or anything similar; it just doesn’t work like that.

The booking will then be subject to the relevant fare conditions. R includes lounge access but not cost free seating selection in business. The ‘comparable transport conditions’ relate to the class but not lounge access, free selection of, or type of seat, IFE, food etc. A passenger can ask for compensation if they wish, but there’s no statutory requirement for the airline to do anything. If you are moved from QR to BA, you also won’t get compensation for missing the caviar.
