I would appreciate any help with booking a london/adelaide and brisbane /london trip next april using qatar or b.a.
I have approx 250000 avios and looking for advice on how to best utilise these as i dont really understand how to eg ..pay for an economy seat and upgrade or pay for one seat and use avios for the other. if purchasing an economy seat at best price on a web site can you then go onto the airlines site to use avios to upgrade.all very confusing for an old git like me.
any pointers greatly appreciated,
thanks.
This may help

And there are other threads

There are loads of articles on HfP that will provide step by step info and tips. I’d start by going through the Avios section and using the search bar for your queries.
A post of mine with many of the relevant HfP links has disappeared. Hopefully it is in the moderation bin. We will see – the team are probably all too busy at Wimbledon to pick it out 😀
There is no simple answer unfortunately. It will depend on dates, reward availability, Avios prices, cash prices and a few other things too.

Start here if a lot of that article doesn’t make any sense work forward through the beginners articles on Avios here….

and then the relevant bits (not all 195 of them :D) here

In very general terms re: upgrades and rewards (and many other things) across all airlines, your life will be much easier if you book direct with an airline rather than random 3rd party internet travel agents. Unless the price difference is cavernous (and it won’t be for economy) I’d be doing that as my starting point.
If the search bar here doesn’t work very well (and it doesn’t) then just use google searching “headforpoints [your query]” and both articles and (lots of) relevant forum threads for that query will pop up. There are dozens about Australia already and armed with some base knowledge they will make a lot more sense.
then come back herewith any more specific queries. Happy reading 🙂
