It says Off-peak on BA and when I go on IB it shows 42,500 avios whilst the BA assistant worked it out to 62,500 avios using 241?

That sounds like a lot more than the difference between peak and off peak.

42500 is the off peak 62500 is the peak on that route

Only 1st April is peak so I’d get that double checked

    8/4/23 according to the post.

It’s 8th April 2024 and I was charged the peak amount.

Sorry that was my clumsy fingers! This year though, IB peak dates were April 1st, then 5th to 10th.

8/4/24 is a peak date on ba.com, however.

Online it’s quoting off peak from the 5th to the 10th – if you could do a dummy booking as well please, just to prove that I’m not going nuts ! 08/04 won’t show know as it’s ‘sold out’ as the two Avios seats have been booked

I was going off the chart Rob published for IB peak dates for this year.
    https://www.headforpoints.com/2023/01/13/2023-peak-and-off-peak-avios-flight-dates/

A dummy booking for BA flights is showing the week from April 5th to 11th as peak, with just the 9th as off-peak, which is pretty much what you’d expect in the Easter holidays. I can only get into the IB app and it doesn’t show whether it’s peak or not when I try a dummy booking!

I’ve just tried a dummy booking for 9th April on BA and it is off-peak 42,500 avios. The 2nd April – 25th April is showing as off-peak on BA so maybe an error as can’t believe the whole of April is off-peak? Is it worth contacting BA Executive club to see if 8th April s/b off-peak? Thanks

Also showing 42,500 Avios on Iberia.

Nothing to lose, but I’d hold until the SJO seats are released – always check on Ba.com before booking to see what it quotes.

Thank you, I vaguely checked but BA Exec line were sure it was off-peak? They did get price wrong to start with as well so could have date wrong!

    Ok, next instalment!
Flights from SJO-MAD are now out! I called Ba Exec to change the Panama flights from last night (I know should have waited but impatient!) to the SJO to MAD. That call took 45 minutes to get through then 35 minutes to book. The BA assistant yesterday did in fact book it as peak when it should have been off-peak do they rectified that error and refunded me the 20,000 Avios. They then cancelled the PTY flight and booked the SJO one. The taxes were coming out at a crazy amount but after some tweaking they got them down to the amount I expected. All booked now although will have to pay £35×2 fee at least I do not have to book flights from SJO-PTY and accommodation.
Thank you to everyone who has helped this newbie along the way, until the next time!

Hi randomly checked IB and surprised to see April 24 available. What was more mad it only shows 26march-01april is PEAK and everything else after is off peak. Unbelievable. Did MAD-BOG 42.5K with a 241 for 50% off and 85k for a true 241. First use of a 241 ever for me. So well chuffed and all thanks to people on here/hfp.

Not directly related to Avios, but I have been trying to book LGW-SJO in March returning SJO-MAD-LHR in April. The return Iberia flights are still not available on ba.com and you cannot book the BA direct outbound portion on iberia.com, even though the return Iberia flights are available on iberia.com. Same with phoning the airlines themselves; the agents can’t book those flights together.

However, these flights are “bookable” with Iberia via Skyscanner.com. The only problem with that was you couldn’t choose, for example, to fly out Economy and return in Business when using Skyscanner.com and couldn’t necessarily choose the connecting flight times.

Skyscanner loads directly into iberia.com to book the flights and what I found was that you can actually change the HTTP address in the address bar on Iberia.com to type in the (different) flight details, remove the “&Cabin=xxxx” and “&BookingCode=xxxx” and “&FareCode=xxxx” for each leg and then it actually comes up with a choice to choose which cabin/fare you want on all portions of the journey as a legitimate booking!

As there’s still no news about when the Iberia flights in April will turn up on ba.com, I took a chance with a booking via the method above, and this seems to have worked as I can now log into BA.com and choose my seat on the outbound flight and can log into Iberia.com and choose my seat on the return flight, so all portions are correctly booked.

It’s just weird that Iberia.com does not give you that option (to book the outbound direct LGW-SJO BA flight) from the outset.

I have my flights booked from MAD-SJO return for next Easter on IB using a 241 with everyone’s help on here. My next question is the best way to book my LON-MAD return. I know that adding to the booking will increase taxes(?) so should I book these flights on a separate booking as going to stay over for 1 night in MAD on outbound. Also my OH has a 241 (only for economy) which we could use if it was worth it.
Lastly I do not have any hotel points so will need to book a hotel separately, thank you.

You want to ask BA to add the MAD-LON leg to your booking so that your luggage is checked through and you don’t have to go through immigration in MAD, plus you will be moved to the next flight if you arrive late. Be aware that the BA agent may be quoting too much (which was the case for me) and you need to try again. I paid (per person in CE) 22,250 Avios, £28 tax increase, £35 change fee, and £15 service fee – I got them to remove the service fee as this is something that cannot be done online. The flight is BA459, about 90min after arrival. It may be a different price if you want to stay longer and fly Iberia on that leg or you want to try a different Avios + cash option. All done via Twitter (except for he last step as they called me for payment).

For the leg LON-MAD you should book a check one-way and stay one night in Madrid. Madrid is a great city! We will stay in the Crowne Plaza at the airport, so that we can sleep in and get up late. The day flight to SJO will be long and you will arrive late for our BST timezone.

Thank you, flying IB so yes would like to link the MAD-LON flight so that luggage goes through and no immigration. Happy to fly any airline and stay 1 night in MAD on way out. Just would like to know cheapest way. Return flights on IB are 26,000 +£104.16 but not sure if adding this to my original booking would increase taxes.

Sorry another question! If I call BAEC to add on the MAD-LON flight would I have to pay £35 change fee each? Thanks

Sorry to continue this very long chain! I thought I would try Twitter to get BA to add the MAD-LHR leg to my booking. It took almost 24 hours to get a reply and when they did their response was ‘not possible as it’s a reroute’. I would have to cancel whole booking, could lose Avios availability as it’s not permitted for this type of booking. I did mention 241 and that I wanted to book this flight as part of the booking in case I was delayed and could then get out on another flight but still to no avail. Am I doing something wrong here or the BA agent was incorrect? Thank you

Try it again or via the phone. I did the same via Twitter and had no problem to add the leg!

Here is the relevant twitter quote:

Hello, I have booked MAD-SJO return in business class via a 2-4-1 voucher. Is it possible to add another leg MAD-LON to the same booking so that the luggage is checked through from SJO to LON?

[some interaction with the automated system…]

Hi there, is it just a Madrid to London sector you want to add to your booking? And not one going out?

Yes, only the MAD to LON sector.

MAD-SJO SJO-LON is not bookable online with a 241 voucher.

Thanks, Jens. To add the BA459 from Madrid to London on 15 February in Club Europe, the cost will be:

Increase in Avios – 22,250 Avios
Increase in Tax – £28.00 per person
Change Fee – £35.00 per person
Service Fee – £15.00 per person

    Total = £156.00 + 22,250 Avios

What do you want to do?

    Hi Jek

Thank you for that. I wasn’t as successful as you and was told not possible. It maybe as I am flying Iberia?

I am flying IB MAD-SJO-MAD which is:
    MAD-SJO 42,500 Avios + £114.10*2 =£653.20
    SJO-MAD 42,500 Avios + £242.80*2 =£910.60 (+£653.40 = £1563.80)

If I was to add MAD-LHR (IB):
    55,250 Avios + £193.30*2: 939.10 (+£653.20=£1592.30)

So should only be £28.50 more and 12,750 Avios?

I don’t know why I am being told this can’t be done with my 241 voucher? Has anything changed I am not aware of or shall I call again and try to get through? Thank you
