Hi there,
I am trying to book 5 economy tickets from London to Maldives next October. We also have a companion voucher. I was prepped at 11.40pm tonight and called the US number, I was put through straight away but was then told I was too early and couldn’t hold and was to call back at 11.50pm. I was also logged online. I called back and by the time I got through the options I was then told the office was now closed…..apparently it shuts at 8pm US time and therefore 12.00 our time.
When I tried to add the flights on BA.com I got a error screen where it would only let me view up until end September, when the flights that were released were 24 October. I then tried the app and eventually after three tries got through on that, it said flights were available but as soon as I clicked on them, they disappeared.
I then tried to call Australia, my phone and Skype wouldn’t connect to the number and then I also saw that the office is shut at the weekends there.
I’m now panicking, my next option is to try to book the flights again on Monday for 26th October. What do I do about the office closing though? Are there other numbers that actually work? I’ve also no idea why BA.com wouldn’t connect to the appropriate month let alone dates.
Any help would be much appreciated!

There’s a lot of discussion in here about the best way of getting through on the phone these days, but I would simultaneously be trying to book the seats online. I’m also wondering if you can have 5 people on one booking (I’ve only ever done 3 so can’t confirm either way). Have you tried a dummy booking with a destination which has 5 available seats?
You’re booking for half term which will be in high demand, so if you’re set on MLE as a destination, consider a Plan B such as using your companion voucher to get to DXB/DOH/CMB and connecting from there.
Clocks only went back in the US this week, so assuming the call centre is east coast, calling at midnight tonight would make it 7pm US.
As it’s Monday Aus will be open. I’ve called it before from Skype a long time ago and it worked, maybe worth trying again. But otherwise you should be fine with the US number now their clocks have changed too – it’s actually better in winter as it closes at 0100 our time but the seats are released at 0000
Good luck!
Disaster, really?
Proving my point re moderators being needed to ensure sensible, descriptive thread titles
Thank you for the advice and help. That’s really reassuring about the time difference and I will definitely try again tonight on the phone and online. I did manage to book 5 tickets to Mexico for next Easter during school holidays at midnight back in April so I’m hoping to do the same again. Honestly, I know it’s a first world problem and it’s not an actual disaster, however I’m trying to fly my family out to surprise my mom for her 70th birthday as she will be staying in the Maldives and unless I get some reward flights. I’m unlikely to be able to afford it at the accommodation is already expensive so I’d really like to be able to get it done tonight.
@cabal @blair I thought the title for a perfectly reasonable request for clarification based on others’ experiences was exaggerated and entitled too. Clear where the cultural difference comes from if looking closely but it really is dissonant.
Who else had to look up dissonant? Excellent use of the English language @Lady London
Come on LL it’s hardly a helpful thread title is it?
How many people just scrolled passed it (and many other threads) because it wasn’t really descriptive of the issue the OP has?
Something like ‘need help with booking using 2-4-1 and avios seats’ would likely have generated a lot more respinses.
(I only read it today because I clicked on the wrong thread)
More to the point, how did OP fare today with booking seats?!

Well the title’s a bit like someone screaming as though they were drowning. Causing the immediate escalated concern of onlookers and their willingness to leap in and take emergency action to save someone from drowning.
Only to find someone is just squealing because they’re in the pool and someone just splashed them with water.
Not necessary and in the direction of compassion fatigue for real emergencies – like someone’s stranded away from home cos their flight home got cancelled at last minute and no flight offered for a week etc.
