Hi all you knowledgeable people. I’m new to BAEC silver status (attained this on 30th September, so not used it yet). My collection year ends on 8th September 24 and card expires 31st October 24. To retain silver it says I need 400 tier points and 2 more flights. We plan to book to fly CW to USA for 3 wks taking advantage of the double tier points bonus (we’d get 400 tier points and 4 flights with this trip). but, we won’t be flying until end Sept/early Oct 24. Am I right in thinking we will get silver status for this trip but then drop back to bronze? If so is there any way round this to retain silver? Unfortunately we can’t take any more holidays/flights before this. Thanks
To get Silver status you need 600 Tier Points and 4 qualifying flights in a membership year. It sounds like if you cant travel enough to achieve that before 8 September 2024, your best bet is to do it as soon after 8 September 2024 as you can – this will maximise the time that you keep your Silver status, as you will have it for the rest of 5he membership year in which you earn it (Sept 24-Sept 25) plus all of the following member ship year (Sept 25-Sept 26) and soft landing to Bronze afte4 that if you dont requalify.
So if your planned travel is 400 points, then youd need another 200 to get Silver.
Your current collection period is 9 Sep 2023 to 8 Sep 2024. If you reached silver on 30 Sep 2023 which is in the current period, you should have the status until 31 Oct 2025.
There was another post about this “bug” recently, where the expiry date doesn’t update immediately.
If you earn 600 TPs and take 4 BA/IB flights between 9 Sep 2024 and 8 Sep 2025, you will be silver until 31 Oct 2026.
Also – if you are flying in CW, and have no other flights for the next 11 months, the only additional benefit of silver is free seat selection on BA. If you would actually pay for it, it could be a big saving. But if you wouldn’t pay or only pay a small amount then may not be worth it. You do get 7 day advance seat selection as bronze.
