Forums Payment cards American Express Hilton cashback offer: 2 pending transactions

  • 213 posts

I stays at the Hilton LGW last night.

Between room and F&B I spent just over £200, which is what the folio shows.

I checked out via the app and I can see two pending transactions on my statement, rather than one for £203. Am I screwed? The terms don’t mention cumulative spent.

If they settle separately, can I ask the hotel to refund and charge again?

    Cumulative spend is fine

The offer is cumulative so it should trigger no problem.

I can confirm this. You can even spread the £200 over 2 separate bookings and the offer will track.

    Did you eat at Yokozuna?

They bill independently via their own merchant system.

I wanted to eat there but I was aware I couldn’t charge it to the room!

    Thank you all! It’s reassuring!

Are all the hotel promos cumulative?

Hilton, Marriott and IHG, definitely. You have to make sure you read the Ts & Cs and get charged by the right process. Also IHG tends not to take payment until very near the date of the stay, which can mess things up if you’ve booked beyond the offer expiry.

Anyone else had any issues with this offer?

I made a prepaid reservation at a participating location (It’s on the list and American Express have confirmed the location is participating) and American Express have finally informed me that they won’t be paying the statement credit because the offer is not valid for reservations made online, only for those paid at checkout. I was billed by the hotel themselves after making the reservation.

The comments on here implied that online spend would be fine – seems like it isn’t.

As I pointed out in my post above, it can depend on the payment processor – some hotels process online and in-person payments differently.

Which hotel did you stay at? Hilton is usually a safe bet as all payments go through their head office.

The (IHG) George in Edinburgh was using a different system which meant people weren’t getting credited and there were a couple of successful challenges posted about on this site. I don’t know if you could argue the same angle for Hilton.

It was a Hilton. Appears on the statement as Hilton and the hotel name.

Which Hilton? and what did it come across as on the statement?
