Forums Hotel loyalty schemes Hilton Honors Hilton changed my room after online check-in

I checked in online yesterday, selected my room, requested a digital key, for a one-night stay commencing today.

Received confirmation of the digital key about an hour ago. My room has changed! It’s still the same room type – no upgrade – so that’s not the reason. In fact, it’s only a few doors away from my original room. However, it’s directly opposite the lifts.

My Honors profiles says I prefer a room away from the lifts. My original room was at the end of the corridor. Just about everyone getting out of the lift would turn left and head down the corridor away from my room, other than the couple of rooms in between. I’d have very little disturbance.

I’m not best pleased. Seems pointless selecting a room only for Hilton to override this and give me something less than ideal.

I’ll see what they say when I arrive at the property later today.

Could be as simple as a maintenance issues/housekeeping understaffed so it won’t have been cleaned from last night’s guest. Room could have been completely trashed. Could even be a diamond member already in that room with a late checkout. Any of those can happen.

Could be that the guest extended also

I’d give them a ring now if you’ve a strong preference, the later you leave it the more check ins they’ve had and therefore less options to move you too, especially if they’re busy

Queried it when I arrived and was moved back without any fuss. Thank you for responding.

But that’s even weirder as no reason for them to have changed your room!

I’ve had it happen to me a few times. From what I can gather, checking in online is no barrier to the front desk reassigning the room to someone else if the system shows that you haven’t used the digital key yet.

In other news someone walked into a bank and kill 5 workmates.

It really is a most minor of first world problems to be “not bet pleased”, to find out that ultimately a chat at the desk made it a complete non-issue.

And on spreekillerdiscussion.com that’s the main topic of discussion on their forum. Meanwhile on this travel website…
