Forums Hotel loyalty schemes Hilton Honors Hilton half board rate for Diamond / Gold

    Hi all,

Looking at half board rate for a 3-night stay at the Waldorf RAK next year.

On the Hilton app, there is a half board rate. Is this rate discounted to factor in that Hilton Diamond/Gold get complimentary breakfast included anyway or is that a rate that is offered to everyone?

    It’s not discounted BTW

It’s the rate offered to everyone.

If you get breakfast anyway then have to decide if the HB supplement is worth it.

Think about it like this: if a diamond books a rate including breakfast, they will be paying for breakfast.

Thanks for the comments. Will have a think – there are no other Diamond benefits (guaranteed) that are offered here. No lounge, although even if it had one, Diamond’s are excluded anyway.

The difference in cost between the Honors Discount rate (where I’d get breakfast) and the half board rate (which also includes non-alcoholic drinks) is £270. That’s for 3 nights and four of us.

I’ve never previously stayed at this Waldorf but I’d imagine it would cost me significantly more if I paid for dinner separately.

£22.50 per person for dinner inc soft drinks.

Depending on if it’s where you want to eat, the menu works for everyone and there’s nothing else nearby it might be a good deal

Personally I’d rather pay £30 each and dine around. I’m not even that big a fan of breakfasts in major city hotels, I’ll use it about 50% of the time but then I don’t have kids to have to feed and drag around.

Also remember diamond breakfast would only be for two so factor in if the other two are eating.

Thanks. I did actually query the diamond breakfast benefit with them prior and they did confirm it would be extended to the four of us.

But I remember when I enquired the same with the Waldorf DIFC last year they insisted it would just be for 2 pax.
Maybe because the RAK one is more a resort type, they’re a little flexible with this? I have no idea.

I stay at Waldorf RAK quite a lot, and yes, the excellent breakfast is thankfully free for both Diamond AND Gold members. However if you want to dine outside the hotel your options are pretty limited. There is the Golf Club a few hundred yards away, and just before that there was the excellent “Belgian Beer Café” which overlooked the golf and was very reasonable for fast food (burgers, fish & chips) and a drink. But you prompted me to look just now and I see it has closed! Which is a bit of a pain as I really liked the place and am booked into the Waldorf for November!
There is a small Mall about a mile or so down the road which has a food hall, Pizza Express and a Thai, but other than that you will struggle.
The hotel was closed for refurbishment last year, so I don’t know what they’ve added or taken away, but the food was always reasonable to purchase around the adult pool area, but that was during the day.
I know it stings a bit having to pay for breakfast when you would get it free anyway, but if you are being offered dinner for 22 quid a pop I’d be inclined to take it. Maybe you could “squeeze” a few drinks out of them given the breakfast situation, does no harm to ask.

Thanks. They did come back and say my Hilton My Way benefit can be exchanged from breakfast (as the half board rate will include that) but on my Hilton app the only other option is preferred room upgrade (which is never guaranteed) or the 1,000 bonus points.

Aware that there’s not many dining options outside of the resort – our previous stays on Al Marjan Island and our last stay was the Intercontinental – just that Al Hamra Mall close by.
