Seems like if things are changing, APAC Hilton didn’t yet get the memo…..

Nothing is changing. The G / D benefit is continental and that has been the rule for at least a decade, except for Waldorfs where there was no breakfast benefit at all until 2018, and HGI where the benefit is a cooked breakfast. Most hotels don’t see the point making staff monitor what you take from the buffet therefore they offer more than they are required to.

But there have always been a few outliers, I would say less than 1%, who have penny-pinching managers. Sometimes a new manager will reinstate full breakfast only for the next one to reintroduce an upgrade charge, within the space of a few years.

You say “APAC” but it is the Pacific i.e. Australia and NZ where you are / have been most likely to see extra charges for full breakfast in the past decade.

This is separate from the US credit thing, which btw has also been applied by various Canadian Hiltons in 2021 and 2022 against the rules, but secretly approved by Hilton. Of course those rules have now changed, but only 2 new hotels (Motto Rotterdam and Motto Tulum) do the credit thing.

We are diamond, and Tapestry St Albans (Samuel Ryder) mentioned at check in a supplement for the cooked breakfast (I seem to recall £5pp). We had the cooked breakfast but the supplement was not charged. This seemed common looking at the comments on FT.

Apart from that I’ve seen no skimping across a dozen or so Hilton’s, DTs and Curios in the UK.
