Just stayed at my first Holiday Inn – the niu. Wasn’t aware of the brand until browsing for somewhere cheap to stay on a quick 3 day break to Germany. Hugely impressed. I’m as much high end as anyone (ok, maybe that’s not true, but I do like 5*), but for under £40 with free breakfast (status) and an upgrade to a 30sqm room who can complain?
Anyone else tried?
HI (and HIEX) are very variable in quality between properties but yes, can be excellent value for money. Two which have impressed me recently are the HI GLA, where the executive rooms are very smart, and the HI East Kilbride where you can get a suite for the standard points price.
Someone with a less good experience
These are a new batch of hotels to join IHG from the Novum group
Not sure it was less good. Reads like they got exactly what the price point offers.
All looks clean and tidy with good access to public transport etc it’s not exactly acting like it’s a Kimpton or something.
Where you might be upset is when rates are high due to demand from events in the local area.
I think the reason it’s not just HI or HIX is because the NIU had its own concept so best not to think they are your typical HI experience.
