Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Hong Kong upgrade with Avios

  • 53 posts

    Hi,

Can anyone tell me how many avios are required to upgrade from Business to First from Hong Kong to London Heathrow? The business ticket is already paid in cash, so i’m just looking at a cost in terms of avios needed.

I’ve looked in a few places but cannot find the answer, including on the BA site where the Reward Calculator does not appear to work. I’ve tried a dummy booking but its currently showing no availability. Is there a chance seats can open closer to booking or even at check in if that is an option? Many thanks

Have you got SeatSpy? This shows the various cabin pricing, and it’s different peak/off peak so it depends on your travel dates as well.

That said, I don’t know if there’s even an F cabin to/from HKG any more. I’ve not seen any F award availability for a long time and there’s certainly none showing at the moment.

Hello, thanks for the reply – I don’t have seatspy but will take a look – I did a dummy normal first class booking one way from HKG to LHR and it came up with a first class price so I think there is a first class cabin, it’s a 787 with BA…

That doesn’t mean BA will necessarily release any avios seats, though. You’ll need to keep checking or set up an alert with SeatSpy.

Yes the BA27/28 flights is currently scheduled to use B787-9 year-round, which does have first class. The other set of flights BA31/32 uses A350 during the summer and B787-8 during the winter, which don’t have first class.

I’ve definitely seen first class reward availability not long ago, I think they sometimes do release it a month or so before the flight. However these are indeed very rare, so I wouldn’t get my hopes up especially if you’re fixed on your travel dates.

The other option would be of course ask for the cash upgrade price at the airport.
