Forums Frequent flyer programs Virgin Flying Club How to book return flights with a reward voucher 331 days in advance?

Hey all. I have a Virgin Atlantic reward voucher that I’m hoping to use to upgrade some flights. Assuming a saver seat is available in upper class, I had planned on booking the outbound 331 days in advance when the reservation window opens. When I come to booking the return leg 3 weeks later, will the booking agent apply any value left in my reward voucher for another upgrade, or will I encounter a problem as this wasn’t completed as one transaction? Alternatively do I just have to wait to both the out and inbound are on sale, and hope the saver flights remain available? Any advice would be appreciated, as I’m a bit confused about the best way to go about this.

As all seats are available for rewards there is little point in booking the outbound before the inbound becomes available
I watched carefully on LHR-SFO and no outbound flights became more expensive before the inbound was available.
A few did increase 3 weeks later – presumably because people booked 10 days-2 week holidays

As Rob has said, IT IS worth booking as soon as flights come out. Book as 2 one way tickets if cheap saver rates are available. Although high rates could come down, saver fares are unlikely to, so lock in as soon as you can.

From what’s been put out so far, you can’t use a voucher in 2 halves any more.
