My girlfriend and I both have a BA voucher earned with the Premium Plus card. We’d like to travel together and both use our voucher to use 50% of Avios on a premium cabin (Premium Economy or Business, TBC).
– Is it possible to use 2 vouchers under one booking? If so, can this be done online or only via phone?
– How can we make sure we’ll sit together? (the award seats available may not be together)
Thanks a lot.
I think you need to do some more research on how the vouchers work.
While you can each use a voucher for a 50% discount, if 2 of you are travelling use one voucher as a 2-4-1 and keep the other for another holiday!
Rob has written lots of useful articles- you could start by reading this one:
https://www.headforpoints.com/2024/01/03/how-do-british-airways-american-express-2-4-1-vouchers-work-2/ and there are several helpful threads in the BA forum here.
As far as sitting together goes, unless you have status the only way of guaranteeing this is by paying to reserve seats. It sounds as if you think it is pre-determined which seats on the plane are occupied by those who book with avios, which isn’t the case. Again, reading the amazing resources on this site will help you.
Yes definitely use one voucher at a time, at least then you’ll be on the same booking if there’s a change or cancellation. As @zio says, you’ll have to pay for seats unless you have silver or gold status (or Bronze at 7 days before you fly), if you want to be sure you’re seated together. This isn’t cheap so factor it in to the overall cost of the trip.
Also as mentioned, read up on the voucher as you can also use it on Iberia and Aer Lingus. If done carefully, you can get huge value out of it. With a bit of flexibility there’s no reason why you can’t get 2 business class seats, as long as you’ve got enough avios.
Thanks for your input – I am familiar with how the voucher works and agree 2 for 1 is simpler.
To clarify, the reason I wanted to explore using solo/50% off were: (i) expiration dates of vouchers (want to make sure they’re both used by the deadline) and (ii) desire to keep some of my miles for another voucher I will earn soon (2 for 1 in Business long-haul will use most of my balance, and the value of the voucher is very limited if I don’t have enough miles to use it…).
Why don’t you have a HHA to pool avios? Then when you make a 241 booking you both contribute avios towards it.
