Discuss today's stories:
Inspired by some of the trip reports on here, I am looking to use a 241 voucher next year to fly from Madrid to Rio, visit Iguazu Falls, onto Buenos Aires and then back to Madrid. Planning 15 nights, including 1/2 nights in Madrid. I understand that the booking is made on the BA website and the leg from London to Madrid is best booked on a separate ticket. A couple of questions:
Is there a best route to follow i.e into Rio and back home from Buenos Aires or the other way around? I guess it comes down to flight availability?
I see that some posters tag on the Madrid to London leg on their return. Do I do this on the BA website or call BA (or Iberia). I see there is a stopover option but wondered if that was for something else.
Finally, if I book the outgoing leg as soon as flights are available, do I then call when the return legs are available to add them to the outgoing tickets. Do I call BA or Iberia for this?
Appreciate any guidance, thanks in advance.
If you’re using a 2-4-1 all bookings are done through BA. When adding the return you just ask BA to book you on IB via MAD and on to London.

Does this need booked over the phone if you’re adding a return leg from Madrid to London as part of the same ticket?
An open jaw booking using a 2for1 can only be made over the phone.
Or book online return and phone on to get 50% avios returned and voucher applied
Many thanks @HampshireHog

Out of interest, why IB from MAD on to London? Is there anything ‘wrong’ with accepting, shall we say, a BA flight as the last leg?

Two reasons – one is that you may get a long haul Iberia aircraft on the MAD-LHR sector and I would say the service is a little better, food similar, wine much better on IB (but only Cava vs BA offering supermarket champagne). The other reason is that adding a BA sector can sometimes send the taxes haywire, never in your favour.
Whatever, if you pick a short connection for your return to the UK, you will get sorted out efficiently.
