Hi All,
I hope some one can please assist.
I am looking to book a NYC hotel with points + cash. The booking explicitly states “Prices include taxes and fees”
Yet in the rate details in states
TAXES AND ADDITIONAL CHARGES
Additional Charges: 25.00 USD per night not included in rate effective 18 September, 2023 through 22 September, 2023
Taxes: 14.75% per night not included in rate effective 18 September, 2023 through 22 September, 2023
3.50 USD per night not included in rate effective 18 September, 2023 through 22 September, 2023
Whilst I understand the amenities fee of $25 USD. Shouldn’t the occupancy tax rate of 14.75% be included in the “taxes & fees” am I missing something. Any insight would be appreciated. TIA
Yes the regular taxes should be included in the final figure you see on the reservation confirmation screen before paying. Whereas as you rightly say the resort fee is never included. You could try asking an agent to book on your behalf and see if they are getting quoted a final figure (that states it is) inclusive of taxes
Note that what you see depends on what website you are on. If you are on the UK IHG site you get everything included, US you don’t.
Thanks Blair & Rob,
Still quite confusing tbh, IHG agent confirmed taxes included but the T&Cs on the confirmation still state
Terms and Conditions
Tax and Fee Details
25.00 USD per night not included in rate effective 18 September, 2023 through 22 September, 2023
Taxes: 14.75% per night not included in rate effective 18 September, 2023 through 22 September, 2023
3.50 USD per night not included in rate effective 18 September, 2023 through 22 September, 2023
They reiterated on the call that if booking from the UK, taxes are included and the T&Cs are a US formality. NAL but written confirmation of additional taxes on the booking sounds like something I will have to dispute.
You get a total price with your booking confirmation so you can always refer back to that. I think they just show the taxes for the sake of Americans who are used to all the charges being loaded on after the initial pricing.

Thanks will revert with my findings 🙂
