Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club I’m Silver on BA but my wife has the companion voucher

Hello and apologies if this has been asked before.

I hold silver status on BA and I’m aware of the perks when I make the booking. My wife is currently Bronze and we have a newborn (all part of the household account btw).

My wife is the cardholder on BA Amex Premium Plus and I’m the additional one, so the companion voucher will be issued under her name and membership.

    The question is:

We want to fly to LA next year using the voucher in CW. For the voucher to be used, does she need to make the booking? If yes, how can I as Silver make free seat allocation? It becomes a tad trickier because of the newborn, as we’d really like to book the bulkhead seats for the pram or the cot BA provides.

I think Bronze perks will be the ones kicking in because it’s her booking, but I hope someone with a similar experience will cast a miraculous light

    Thank you to anyone replying!

Your wife should make the booking but the system should automatically provide the silver benefits once you are linked to the booking in my experience

The voucher owner has to make the booking, but as long as you are all on the same booking you get the silver benefits (including lounge access plus guest).

Not sure how infant bookings work, but I thought they get bassinet seats regardless of status.

Same here, I am Silver but OH holds the BAPP. It doesn’t actually matter whose account a booking is made on, as a passenger with status you can select seats as soon as the booking is complete, from your own account.

Doesn’t actually matter who’s account you use or even if you are logged in at all – can just use the PNR and surname of any of the passengers via ba.com MMB. The booking effectively acquires the status of the highest ranked passenger.

Won’t let me edit my last post, but just to clarify I meant once the booking exists anyone can manage it and select seats.

As above the voucher holder must make the booking in the first place.

Thank you to all who replied. I understood that the perks applicable will be of the highest ranking ECM on our booking, so I should be able to get free seat allocation.

    Cheers

Thank you for asking this question and the responses. I had the same query.

I will be silver when we fly and will use my 241 voucher to buy one way tickets to Orlando (cruise). I want my daughter to purchase our avios flights back to London from Barcelona. She won’t have enough (or want to spend I suspect) avios for club euro flights. I can live with economy for a 2hr flight but I do need the enhanced luggage allowance, and very much welcome lounge access. I thought my status would extend across but good to have confirmed.

It’s great for European short-haul in economy, we always buy loads of nice food to bring back from Spain and France! One of the security officers at AGP earlier this year was having a good laugh at my hand luggage full of chorizo sausage and manchego cheese. The olive oil, pate, etc, was all checked in, of course.
