Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Inbound Avios Availability

Generally while searching for CW Avios redemptions, why is there often plenty of availability on the outbound but way less on the inbound?
Find this across multiple routes but some recent searching made me curious.
Even routes such as NYC which have plenty of availability usually, I have no issues at all getting my required 3 seats outbound any day of the week, but few and far between on the way back.

Are people booking one way flights all the time / booking returns first or do BA allocate them differently?

Other then the guaranteed allocations released at T-355 BA releases extra inventory when it wants and that can be asymmetric depending on how flight sales are going.

And yes people do lots of one-ways (or seeming one ways like open jaws) which skews what we see when we come to book even if BA does release the same number of inbound as out bound flights.

Add into that people mixing and matching much more such as flying BA outbound and another inbound and it gets even more complex.

People are also more likely to fly premium cabins on overnight flights. For example from NYC back to London, most flights are overnight, so where someone might have tolerated Premium Economy on the daytime outbound, they may want Club World for the overnight return flight, further reducing availability.
