Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club London – Santiago Reward Flight

    Hi,

Looking at this route – seems that whilst plenty of outbound availability, there’s not much on the inbound to London. Looking to add the return leg (for the T+355) and seems that the business seats are either not loading or they are being booked at midnight. Is there any reason for this imbalance or it it a glitch? If anyone knows would be much appreciated or it may be I guess a call up at midnight to secure the business seats (the thing is, I can’t even see them appear online first).

    Thanks in advance

At the moment they are probably being snapped up really quickly for the end of the Easter holidays. The start of the holidays is similarly lacking in availability, which would support this theory!

It might be that everyone is shifting their focus on non-US destinations for holidays so destinations which were previously unpopular are now more attractive. If you are not tied to a 241 voucher fly back via Madrid or if you are book both outbound and inbound via Madrid.

Even if you are tied to a 241 you can still use IB and fly via Madrid.

Well you could fly IB if they actually load the flights.

Thanks, makes sense, will keep an eye out.

In general, what’s the good-avg-poor Avios numbers for Santiago/London..assuming 2 passengers on a BAPP voucher?

Drastically reduced if going Iberia via Spain?

People have reported being hit with very high surcharges when trying to combine BA and IB on a 241 booking, which might be an issue.

150k Avios peak/ 102k Avios off-peak + cca £400 in taxes for return tickets for two with the voucher.

BA agents charge high surcharges if you want to mix BA and Iberia on vouchers.

85k Avios return on Iberia if you find that. With voucher, that’s for 2. Great value.

Santiago is in a higher band than other South American destinations so that’s not correct.

I have been keeping an eye on the return leg (SCL-LHR) since last year and I have no idea why it is not loaded up as well. So once the outbound was secured, I just tagged along the 2-4-1 voucher to IB from EZE to MAD. I think you can do either SCL or EZE.

    F on BA, INV-LHR-SCL, 119k avios + £688
    J on IB, EZE – MAD, 51k avios + £283

Once booked the outbound. You can book the inbound and call in to get 50% avios refunded. In my experience, BA CS needed to speak to her advisor but all was straightforward.

    Hope this helps.

Of course if you live near Inverness that works.

However, not sure whether paying extra 34k (peak) / 10k (off-peak) Avios plus cca £300 per person in surcharges to fly F on the outbound is worth it.

Any reason you didn’t book Eze mad Lhr ?

I didn’t think you could mix airlines on a 241 voucher? I was told if outbound was Iberia then inbound had to be Iberia (informed by BA customer helpline)?

    Is that business class?

assuming you figures were business class

Yes, this is for business class.

I also now double checked and priced it on dates in March 2024 – peak dates are 75k one-way and 51k off-peak one-way, so double that for return.

You can mix, but a) some agents don’t know b) those who know have been instructed to add BA surcharges.

To circumvent this, if you have enough Avios, you can book the inbound online separately (South America – Madrid- London) and then call to get half Avios back. The agents can’t reprice surcharges. Again some agents are useless.

Thanks, I can see there is now business availability which would support this theory that the seats were being snapped up before due to Easter school holidays. Thanks for all your help.

We are based in Scotland. So prefer to have direct EZY flight into EDI from MAD, despite long layover.
