Someone I know is HH gold thanks to owning an Amex Plat some time ago (over a year ago in fact).
They are still gold.
They are about to get another Amex Plat.
Do they need to do anything in regards to HH gold status? Thanks.
I usual do it everytime I get a Plat. But to be fair, I’ve been Gold for 12+ years and they’ve never downgraded me on the multiple years I didn’t have status from a credit card (first Hilton cards in the US and now Plat. in the UK).

Do you get a new HH number every time you enrol via the Amex Plat benefit? No – you link it to your existing account. I linked mine fairly recently as Mrs Froggee seems fairly wedded to her Platinum card (possibly more wedded to it than me) so it seems we’ll have it for the long run and I’ve not spent £10,000 on my Hilton Barclaycard for some time. I noticed in my monthly statement this month that it says “ With your American Express® Platinum Card, you enjoy all of the benefits of Hilton Honors Gold Status.*”
Hopefully they don’t share this with the hotels.
Sorry to jump on the back of this post – Im currently Gold and I have a platinum business card at the minute, is there any benefit in my triggering my complimentary gold membership in January rather than now? Will i get more time on Gold if I trigger it next year? Thanks

No. The date you activate it is irrelevant to expiry. In theory, it is the date of cancellation and the following Hilton year-end after that which determines when the status is lost. In reality, as above, it’s often remarkably “sticky”.
