Mandarin Oriental – Spend £500 or more, get £100 back every time

Hi all,

I noticed this offer on my Platinum card and it’s tempted me to stay at a Mandarin Oriental for the first time. Considering the offer, if the hotel was for instance £1,800, does anyone have experience asking the hotel to let me split the payment into 3 separate card payments so that I can take advantage of the offer 3 times and save myself £300 instead of £100?

Absolutely fine. Did this at MO London – me and friend split bill over 3 cards no qualms. Also done at the Connaught twice and was fine. I suspect if the bill is c.5k and you used 10 cards they may be less inclined but IME a few cards is fine.

Difference here is that the poster will be using the SAME card three times – although should still be OK UNLESS some security thing is flipped. Might be better to make each transaction for a slightly different amount in case Amex thinks one is a duplicate.

Yes, like Rob says, this will be the same card being used 3 times. Different amounts is definitely a good idea.

Also if you can, leave at least a few minutes between each transaction or the card may become blocked. Ideally you would be best approaching reception and asking for the £500 payment to be taken on separate occasions. I find just being honest and explaining why I am behaving erratically with the payment helps.
