Forums Payment cards American Express Marriott ‘spend £400 or more’ offer

  • 14 posts

    Hi,

I may be overcomplicating things here, but I saved the marriott offer and read that one of the conditions is ‘Offer only applies to spend settled in GBP’

On Marriott website, even though I put my preferred currency to GBP, when checking out, it says ‘The final payment appear in hotels local currency’, even though it shows GBP in total preferred currency.

Will I still get the cashback even if there’s a chance they charge in EUR?

    Many thanks in advanced!

Yes. I got the 75 off 200 a couple of weeks ago, settled at checkout in Euro. The 3% forex charge is added but it just appears on your statement in GBP.

Wierdly I had the credit on my statement several days before the hotel charge even appeared as pending on my card account.

Same here – €625 spent on a Seville hotel (prepaid as well) triggered the offer immediately. No problems with the IHG offer either. The Hilton one, on the other hand…..

Yes I used the 400/100 no issue in Germany

I should know this but I forget it – are Amex offers based on transaction date? Hoping to get a few through before they expire.

Good to know, as I’ve just prepaid 3 nights in Salamanca next year.

Data point – On the 13th I booked a prepaid stay at the Hospes Palacio de San Esteban in Salamanca for next October. Payment hadn’t been taken by the 18th so I emailed the hotel and asked them to charge my Amex. They did so that day – I’m not sure whether they would have done so eventually but didn’t want to miss the deadline for the cashback! The £100 credited yesterday, so 2 days after payment.
