Forums Frequent flyer programs Virgin Flying Club Maximise Virgin voucher in Virgin Family with BA Gold

    Hi all,
I’m sitting on around 120k points and my partner is on 40k points. They have the Virgin voucher (from the Plus card) in their account.
Given the recent Virgin Family Account changes and some of the status matches available (I’m BA Gold), I’m looking to understand how I can best get value from the voucher.
We’re hoping for a return flight to Seattle.
If we combine our accounts into a Family Account, I think that would mean we have enough points for a Premium return flight, around 125k points + tax. But given we’re both Red members, I think we can only book economy class, then use the voucher to upgrade to Premium? But the difference is around 77k points right now, so that might count us out?
I don’t know if there’s a way I can use my BA Gold, with status match, to get a higher tier Virgin status and then me book the flight with the voucher, if it is in our shared Virgin Family account? Not sure if the voucher is in the family or still my partners account.

Either way, I’m expecting that I need to transfer some points from my account to theirs, and I think making our accounts a Family Account makes the most sense, so we don’t have any transfer limits, rather than me just sending the necessary amount of points over?

    Thanks

If you status match BA to VS it only kicks in a couple before the VS flight so wouldn’t affect how you make the booking as it you wouldn’t have the benefits of the status match.

    I’d start here first

A VS household hold account doesn’t work the same way as a BA one so you need to be away if the whys and wherefors see link in next post

I haven’t looked at dynamic pricing for Seattle, but how many points you need could be dictated by when you want to fly.

You can use the voucher for UC but it’s now only worth 75k points if you’re a red member.

A quick look at September pricing and PE one way is coming in around 60k points above economy.
