@davedent I would love to understand the breakdown of the value you expect to receive in return for the money you are putting towards earning Gold? Trying to figure out if a small tier run next year is worth it and need to build it into my holiday plans.

    @Omegaman No, 0.8TP/£ or £1.25/TP, so £1875.

    Of course 🤦🏻

Interesting. We’re retired now so could afford to spend a few nights in some of these places. Could you combine with BA holidays and get same tier points with half the number of flights?

Only BA flights (operated or coded) qualify for double points so things like Abu Dhabi to Jakarta won’t.

I’ve never thought this kind of run made sense, unless you were on the brink of starting a lot of economy travel on OneWorld. But if you’re retired a round-the-world-to-Gold trip might be lovely.

I imagine he has collapsed/is sleeping after 22 flights over a few days…. Curious he was updating the daily threads, not the thread he started though.

Did he make it back alive? Waste of tp’s otherwise

    sorry yes I’m back – 100 TP short !
when the plane was about to land at Colombo we had to make an emergency landing in southern India.
We then spent 5 hours on an airfield whilst they changed engine parts – I was then rerouted with emirates to Dubai (still got the tier points!) and got an emirates car to Abu Dhabi.
Obviously missed the back to back at Abu Dhabi – so cancelled the flight and got a refund and spent two days in Abudhabi before finishing the rest of the run!
will need to do a short TP run to sofia to complete.
Probably never doing this again :))))

Honestly, there are so many better quality of life ways to spend £1800

@davedent, would you do it if it was a more leisurely pace with greater spacing between flights?

Probably no -srilankan has one of the worst business class products out there – it’s not possible to sleep on their non flat bed business seats. They cancel flights all the time and phoning their service centre is a nightmare.

@davedent, did you do this run in the sweet spot of the TP collection year (as in, the part of the year that gets you almost 2 years of status)?

Agree with the above, there is a big thread over at FT for details

That’s good because that would be a lot of work for just one year! 🙂

In the “gap” between your tier point collection year ending/starting, and your current status lapsing. In my case, TP collection ended 8 October, but I still have silver until 30 November. If I somehow crammed all the TPs for Gold into 8 Oct — 30 Nov, I’d have Gold until 30 Nov 24, then again until end Nov 25, and Silver till end Nov 26.

Having said that, if I’d just done a succession of back-to-back flights as @davedent has, I’d probably never want to fly again 😆

Just after your membership year starts

Basically, when you achieve BA status, you then hold it for the remainder of your membership year AND the following membership year. So the sooner you hit it, the longer you have it, up to nearly 2 years.

In addition to what NorthenLass said, if you already hold status you keep it for nearly 2 months after the year finishes, so you can do a TP run in those 2 months you can still use your old status, and then get status that lasts for 2 years.
