Hi,
I received my melia birthday gift email, but when i click ‘Choose your gift’ , it goes to no where and there’s no birthday voucher in my promotions.
Has this changed?
Many thanks in advance.
Part of the issues with the updates they have done. I am currently staying at the Palacio de los Duques, and contacted the hotel in advance to say that I have a voucher but it was not possible to apply during online check-in. They upgraded us by the one level to a Red Level Junior Suite from a Red Level Deluxe Room.
Contact customer service first by phone to confirm that the voucher is showing on your account though.
Many thanks – i sent them an email.
Do you know if Melia Gold give complimentary upgrade sometimes (subject to availability)?
It’s not a listed benefit, only Platinum get upgrades.
When does online check in normally open? I have a stay on Saturday 15th, and I thought in the past it normally opens 96 hours before?
I’m trying to apply the birthday upgrade voucher (which is also missing from the ‘promotions’ section of my account in the app) which is why im trying to check in online
Should be 72 hours from check-in time at the hotel. If you are sure you have a birthday voucher then email the hotel explaining this and ask if an upgrade can be applied as you can’t use your voucher during online check-in for some reason.
Worked for me during my last stay at a Melia property as I have mentioned previously in the thread.
For my upcoming Melia stay I have received an email stating I can check in on the app from 8am on the day of arrival.
Thanks both. It’s now <72 hours before my stay but the app still says check in unavailable, so I guess I’ll just wait until the morning of the stay itself and hopefully the birthday upgrade voucher appears!
If I remember correctly, it also prevents online check-in (and therefore upgrade) after the earliest check-in time, which I fell foul of when travelling and arriving late night. When I enquired at the front desk they said it is nothing they can do or see on their systems.
I just recieved an email prompting me to online check in for my reservation on Saturday. I opened my reservation in the app and it said check in unavailable. So I clicked on the link in the email and it took me to the Melia website. The address begins with https://www1.melia.com (I’ve deleted the rest of the address. page doesnt load after i check in so seems specific to my reservation).
I checked in online and paid for the reservation. The app still says online check in is unavailable.
You could try this site to check in (seems to be a generic website link)
@kevinchoi did it work out for you to use your voucher in the end?
This just prompted me to check my account and the birthday voucher is now showing, though my 20% vouchers have disappeared. I have just started my new year though, so that is normal and likely to appear in a week. Unless one bug being fixed has created another.

This didn’t give me the option of checking in, just showed my reservation details again. Mine way prepaid though, so wonder if your ability to check in earlier was due to having to make payment on the reservation?

Nope. My rate was also prepaid, and got an email inviting me to check in online at like 7am local time. There wasn’t an option for me to upgrade at all, even though i checked that there was availability in the category above. How weird!
I wasn’t too fussed about the upgrade for this stay anyway as it would just have been an upgrade from a premium view room to an eiffel tower view, so I didn’t bother chasing up about it.
No promos on web or app other than the 20% off, but ominous 3 x drop downs which, when pressed, show nothing and error 404 (ie something must be hidden).
I called CS and they confirmed I am eligible and asked me to email CS instead, which I did and they said they had addressed it.
However still nothing showing on app or web.
I am due to stay at a gran Melia from tomorrow for a few days and have cc’d them in all comms. Helpfully the CS team also instructed the hotel to grant an upgrade should one be available on check-in (doubtful). No option to check-in via app per a message on screen.
Their new app is a right shambles but at least their CS are quick to respond.
@ukpolak have you tried calling the hotel direct to process the upgrade?
If it’s any consolation I have all the same issues.
Thanks – indeed have been in email conversation with the hotel (cc’d on all comms with CSC too) and they’ve said they’ll see what they can do upon check-in, dependant on room availability. I’d imagine family rooms for four aren’t plentiful but let’s see what happens!
Arrived at hotel without a response from either them or central CS emails.
It was explained that there is no upgrade to a family room as the next ones up are Level, and aren’t included in the promotion.
Will have to wait for another trip elsewhere where they might have higher rooms than what we reserve.
On a separate note, I’ve been wondering how much the breakfast would cost, as with Gold the second person gets it free. Maybe a cheaper deal than going for b&b rate…Arrived at hotel without a response from either them or central CS emails.

Maybe a cheaper deal than going for b&b rate…That’s odd, without knowing which hotel it is of course, but if there are rooms available they should be allowing the upgrade with the voucher. They may be taking a strict family room for 4 does not equate to a Level Room for 2, but not knowing the full details on how many of you there are and the hotel involved it is not possible to say. Also your upgrade and @ukpolak seem to be very similar dilemmas so one could expect the same to the other.
Arrived yesterday and was indeed granted an upgrade albeit from a regular junior suite to one with an attic area ie second bed somewhat segregated. I can’t complain (equally not really easy for me to determine if it truly is an upgrade!) but they had a note in my arrival pack from HQ customer servicing.
My advice is to email HQ and cc the hotel concierge (in the case of gran Melia they’re super responsive) and it may well work out.
2 days later I received a response from central customer services informing me of the following:
They are in the process of change at Melia.
From now on upgrades via birthday voucher will happen at the hotel when you arrive, subject to availability at that time.
Online check-in will be rolling out across all the hotels, and by March 2025 it will be available in the early hours on the day you are arriving in a link in an email you will receive.
As for contacting them about issues with meliarewards:
“For the next time you would like to contact meliarewards, you should:
Go to the website version from a computer and click on your profile
Click on ‘My Activity’
Click on ‘Other Questions’
Click on the greyed out button ‘Help with your points’
Choose again ‘Other Questions’
In the free text field enter your question.”Ps I did raise the awful app / web UX upon checking in and the local staff all acknowledged as presumably very well known across the group. I wonder how they can get away with stuff like this when the Marriott app / website frankly is a dream in comparison.
