Whether it’s manual or automated will depend on the airline but the process is remarkably similar to writing an old paper, save that there is a very precise IATA format required to ensure tickets are compatible between airlines. On issue, the airline’s system should verify the correct/successful issue but whether that will then work on another airline isn’t guaranteed but almost always will. My suspicion here is that there may have been an issue in formatting the domestic charges in the fare calculation line. BA’s process for issuing e-tickets on voucher bookings is still very manual.
Started CEDR against BA. Will keep you posted.
