Forums Hotel loyalty schemes IHG One Rewards Modifying IHG “Free NIghts” voucher past “book by date”

  • roger 261 posts

I managed to get a voucher after many back and forth with IHG Creation Credit Card for a night of stay.
I have a booking which is past it “book by date” so I do not want to modify it on APP/Website as I may loose the voucher.
Anyone had any luck in modifying booking either date or the hotel after the book by date?

From previous discussions, you will lose the voucher if you can cancel the booking. Appeals to hotels directly tend to result in people just being referred back to IHG, who can’t change the validity date of the voucher so I think readers have ended up losing the stay or gifting it to someone else.

    As ever though, YMMV.

I have this issue and was thinking of asking the hotel. Northernlass has confirmed my suspicion of what they’ll say

@rams, how did you get on?

I’ve come back here because this week I have found myself in a similar position. We are off on a 5-day trip to Scotland tomorrow and had used our last 2 (now expired) Creation certs to book the weekend at the Kimpton Blythswood Square.

In brief, it transpires that the hotel is fully booked and we’re unlikely to be able to make full use of the spa facilities, which were a major reason for visiting the hotel again. So I thought well there’s no harm in asking, and after many to-and-fro emails between us, the hotel and the IHG Ambassador office, our 2 nights have been moved to a (probably) wet weekend in January that we’re more than happy with!

So while there may well have been an incentive for the hotel to free up the Premium rooms we had been allocated, it proves that this is definitely possible, though there can’t be that many Creation bookings left out there! Maybe the odd Chase one?

@northernlass I asked the hotel who said speak to IHG. Emailed the Ambassador team who said no dice, try and have someone else use the room if possible. They apologised and rewarded each of us 5k points

I was really surprised and not convinced that it would actually happen but clearly it is possible, though it may well depend on the level of customer service the individual property is willing to go to!

I’ll add a caveat that the re-booking isn’t showing in my account yet, but I have an email assuring me it will be visible in the next few days …
