Hello
Currently have a Gold card for my second year (so recently paid the annual fee). I’m now thinking id rather have the BAPP card.
Can my other half refer me for that (and therefore get a bonus) and once I apply and get it, I am eligible for the bonus – could I then close my Gold and get a pro rate refund? I think the answer is yes.
What would be the logistics? If I wait til I get the BAPP, will my MR points just essentially be on MY Amex account so won’t be impacted? EDIt: does a BAPP earn Avios and not Mr? Does that mean I need to transfer my existing MR into Avios?
And finally, how would the pro-rata refund work? Would that be credited to my BAPP and how to I ensure this happens if so?Advice appreciated.
Alex
Yes, your O/H can refer you and receive a bonus if you are accepted.
Yes, you could get a sign-up bonus on the BAPP presuming you meet the criteria (holding Gold doesn’t preclude you qualifying for the bonus.)
Yes, you can cancel gold for a pro-rate refund.
Gold card earns MR points (which you can choose to transfer to Avios, among other options) but BAPP earns Avios directly, so no bearing on your MR stash, but you would have to do something with your MR points to avoid losing them if closing the gold card.
The refund would be credited to your (closed) gold account. You then contact Amex to e.g. refund to your bank account, or they may be able to transfer to your new card balance.
Before closing the Gold Card ask them to transfer the credit limit from it to your BAPP card.

Is there something here I’m unaware of?
I’ve always had a credit limit I’ve been comfortable with, despite churning cards at a moderate rate.
Do some people get a vastly reduced one on subsequent cards? Before closing the Gold Card ask them to transfer the credit limit from it to your BAPP card.

But since it’s an option Amex offers you’ve nothing to lose by askingThanks all. Presumably it makes sense re credit limit and I assume they’re unlikely to give me the same again, effectively doubling my credit limit (say I never closed my Gold ?)
Also on a different note, I do make good use of Amex offers (the ones you register to your card and get credit). Does BAPP also offer this?
