Forums Payment cards American Express Got my new Platinum Amex – what next?

  • 13 posts

I’ve taken the plunge and upped gear to the Platinum AMEX…it’s arrived yesterday, I’ve added my wife as a supplementary…now what next?

Any tips to maximise value from the benefits?

Spend, and look for offers and save them at least once a week.

I found the Amex experiences useful, download the app.

The actual benefits to you will depend on your lifestyle, preferences and — crucially — where you live and travel!

Add your loyalty scheme details to the Amex site so you get the upgraded hotel statuses.
Find a restaurant near you on the Amex list and use your £150 credit.
Stick both cards and priority passes in your wallet so you have them next time you are in an airport.
    Generate the travel insurance certificate.

The “maximised” value of benefits is when they complement the plans you had anyway.

Load the Harvey Nics £50 credit offer to your card, remembering to spend it by end of June or it’s lost, and a second £50 will be available from July. And when you’ve got travel plans outside the U.K. check the “abroad” dining offer for another £150 to spend.

If you go to bicester village, email ahead to get reserve parking and the 10% VIP on arrival.

Refer from this card next time there is a referral opportunity.

    .

And handsfree shopping. No need to call ahead if you just want the 10% off card as you can just show your Platinum card at the visitor centre to get this card (which to manage expectations isn’t widely accepted)

When should I anticipate the Harvey Nichols offer (etc) to be available in the Offers tab?

Should be very quick, if desperate get on chat to see if they can add it (think I have seen success cases on here).
