Any personal recommends for dinner at an Indian restaurant in London – don’t really mind where as we will be coming in by train from Woking area.

Quite a bit of love (including from me!) for the Gymkhana set lunch menu. Don’t know if they still offer the wine
flight option, but I’d just stick to beer/G&T next time.

Brigadiers – not recommended. Unless you get the corner ones, the tables are close to each other. Noisy. Food was ok.

C: Any pointer to how toddler friendly it is?

+1 for gymkhana. Lunch is excellent value (compared to dinner) and great if you like spicy Indian food. It is toddler friendly in the sense that I’ve seen toddlers there, but never been with one myself. I think at certain times (peak dinner?) they have a minimum age for children.

Keep getting that Are you a human? page and losing the reply!

Fine for toddlers, but reserve for the bright & buzzy “main” floor
(just inside the front door) and perhaps not for the quaint discreet downstairs on this occasion,
as probably more comfortable for you & your child.
    Have a goodie!

    Gr, original answer disappeared!
I was basically saying you’d been fine, but I’d specify you’d like
to sit on the “main” floor (where the front door is). There’s a quaint discreet
downstairs, but the main floor has the daylight and buzz and I think a child
would be more at home there. Enjoy!

Thanks all, will probably give that a try for a late lunch. Looks really good value from the menu.

Odette is in my top five (alongside EMP, The Ledbury, Tim Raue and L’Enclume) but £150 won’t get you terribly far, I suspect.

Any opinions on Sketch? Got my Platinum recently and thought why not to try Michelin restaurant for the first time. I was thinking about lunch at the Glade.

Can I just ask if it’s mandatory to reserve a table before arriving at any of these restaurants? Thinking of calling at the Ivy while in London on Sunday but plans may change. Also is it just a case of paying on the Amex Plat card for the credit to appear, or do you need to alert them/ask them first?

    Thanks

Great fun. Best toilets in the country. Better food in the capital, but the overall experience is hard to beat.

No it isnt. Amex wont know or care if you are a walk up or had a reservation made months ago. Just pay on the card as normal, nothing to tell the restaurant – Amex will apply the credit when they see the charge come through.

do the statement credits normally appear reasonably quickly after spend?

same question for the HN credit?

Dined at Sathonay and had lunch at Regain in Lyon last weekend. Sathonay was really top notch, service and food. The lunch at Regain was okay, but it was quite cheap at 60 euros for 2 people, 2 courses and wine. It would have only been an extra 10 euros if we opted for the dessert.

Any suggestions for somewhere casual in Paris, drinks and a light snack rather than a meal.

    Yes…and no!
I recently went to the same restaurant in Atlanta twice, the first time the credit came through NEXT DAY, fantastic. The spend the second time has still not appeared after 6 weeks. I have spoken to Amex twice and they just say wait 90 days. Some sort of crappy computer system is running this promotion!!

Heading to Berlin in August. Any good, or disappointing ones to avoid, from the dining list?

Am going next week, booked in at 893 and Bocca. The former fills up quickly so am sitting at the bar. Will come back and let you go.

I would also welcome other recommendation

Separate question, are Apply Pay pretty aceptable in Germany, I’m not taking the card…

Will this work if using Amex Pay (contactless) for overseas spend?
Mrs may be the main card holder but I will travel with my supplementary card, so thinking if I have AMEX with her account on my phone and using Amex pay may work? Any experience?

I’m 90% sure I used apple pay in New Zealand… I use apple pay for all the UK dining credit.

I’m just not sure how widely accepted apple pay is in Germany?

We are also going to Berlin next week – so looking forward to trying the lounges on flights from Stansted (if we can get in), plus also the platinum dining – might try Bocca too.
I don’t remember having any issues in Berlin using Apple Watch Pay with Halifax Clarity – the bigger problem is the surprising number of places in Berlin that are still cash only.

Tried Langosteria Cafe in Milan last week.

The overwhelming impression I got was they really wanted to get rid of us as soon as we sat down, so they could give the table to the next people.

Galleria del Corso inside of which it’s situated is a huge building site and this is pretty much the only finished and open business. But the interior of the restaurant is beautiful. And the food was excellent, if very expensive.

But the service was so rushed we really felt we were on a conveyor belt. The first course arrived before even the wine arrived. Second course barely after finishing the first course. Requests to slow down were ignored. Dishes deposited on the table with no time to tell us what they were. Coffee showed up without us asking for it (and was charged).

This was the only restaurant in Milan I didn’t leave a tip at and I would not go back.

Try as we might we just can’t get a table at Gymkhana so have opted for Kahani. I will report back on our lunch (Sun 2 Jul).
