Yes, the number of Avios is clearly intended to make one forget you are effectively paying well over 1p for these Avios and ending up 24 bottles of second rate wine of BA’s choosing in mixed cases that invariably also include some real stinkers.
Has it been discussed at length? I thought it was briefly mentioned in the daily thread a couple of days ago.
I got 13,500 Avios with my wine (posted instantly). I do appreciate that I could have got cheaper wine by shopping around or contacting vineyards directly but it seems like a reasonable way of getting some okay wine and enough avios for one and a half tickets to Copenhagen.
Depends on your perspective. The £5-7 a bottlle range at Aldi is better wine and buying 24 there I’d easily have enough for a couple of Easyjet/Ryanair returns to europe. (and I’d gain half a day at each end of the trip by not flying via LHR).
