    Hi

We are due to fly on Sunday. Don’t have status so can’t book seats in advance of check in and didn’t want to pay £25 for a two hour flight. We are in CE to valencia I just looked to see what seats might be available on check in and there is only 4 rows open but no seats are available to pay for now. (There was when I looked a couple of weeks ago)

Should I be concerned we might be bumped down to Economy or will seats open up. Flying BA422 of thats helpful

    Many thanks
    Rob

1C DF are free but blocked for golds currently and they’re still selling 2 seats so I suspect they might go back into row 5 as well

If nothing changes you’ll get into row 1 at check in

Thanks for checking. I thought one of these situations might happen. But being a worrier I was thinking the worst.

I saw they were still selling but at £500+ and £700+ for business I guess you would have be be desperate I guess VLC is more of a leisure route than business

If you download seat alerts (by expert flyer) to your phone, you can get a good idea about what is already taken or what is just blocked

Valencia is a very rich business city, plus lots of rich tourists! If you visit the church of San Nicolás, not really on the tourist trail but sometimes referred to as the Sistine Chapel of Valencia you will see what business money buys.

Ive put the church on my list thank you.

I didn’t realise it was a rich business city we have been before and love it. Not too big, easy to walk around and most importantly it has some great restaurants.

Looks like all seats in club Europe now occupied. Do they move people from front rows of economy in that’s. Are 5 and 6 as these are occupied too so can’t push back the decider.

    1C is available

The only thing I think they’ll possibly be able to do is move the curtain down to row 5 and upgrade a couple of people if required

    Fingers crossed for you!

You may have already been allocated seats, this has happened to us numerous times.

OK thanks didn’t realise they did this. To be fair as long as I get there I’m not that fussed I’ll just be frustrated at a downgrade. They still selling economy so not stressed about getting there.

I think it’s more likely they’ll move the curtain back rather than downgrade.

I may complain that I’d prefer a proper reclining regional business class seat like Bangkok Airways but the BA methodology of the same seats as economy but an empty middle seat does allow BA the flexibility to increase or decrease the size if the Club Europe cabin.

I thought if you went in the seat map you’d see any seats you’d been “shadow” allocated but been a while since this happened to me. Hopefully you’re in 1DF when OCLI opens!

@SamG I thought the same but that didn’t happen with my return from TFS last month (neither shadow seats nor row 1 on OLCI) In my case the curtain was moved back and I was allocated seats in the last row. They moved the curtain back.

Result! Sometimes it pays not to select seats early on.

From my own observation and experiences there seems to be a bit of human management, especially if it’s a busy flight.

Glad it worked out ! I did row 2 on an A319 today and you definitely get quite a bit more space on row 1 !

    Glad you’re on the flight!

Not to put you off your flight, but I’m not a fan of row 1, can’t keep any bags for take off and landing (understood as no seats infront to shove under), worst is the hovering zone that row 1 becomes for people queueing for the single front of cabin toilet.

I think the only row 1 seat where it’s an issue is 1C – A, D and F are much more tucked away. I really like the extra leg room and not having the back of the seat in front close to my face. I usually hang on to my phone and iPad so I can read or listen to music if there’s a lot of faffing around at the start and end of the flight!

*Also getting served first and best chance of getting first choice of meal! (I’m talking about 2+ hours, obviously, not just MAN-LHR, lol)
